Support for Gorkhaland from Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Jun 24: Even as the Mamata Banerjee led Government in West Bengal made attempts to discredit the demand for Gorkhaland by a large section of society in Darjeeling Hills, support from all quarters could be seen, with the Arunachal Pradesh Gorkha Youth Welfare Association (APGYWA) organising a peaceful solidarity rally on Saturday at Itanagar.
"We are carrying out this peaceful rally to express our support for creation of Gorkhaland", said (APGYWA) President Shyam Ghatani during the rally.
Hundreds of Gorkha youths from across the state participated in the rally, which started from I G Park Tennis Court and culminated at the Itanagar Gompa here.
The APGYWA President while condemning the statement reportedly made by Banerjee that "Gorkhas are refugees", said that if the Gorkhas are refugees than why there is a Gorkha regiment in the Indian Army, and why their language 'Nepali' is a scheduled language in the Indian Constitution.
The demand for Gorkhaland, which had remained dormant for some time, erupted into a full intensified demand recently following the West Bengal Government's announcement to make Bengali language compulsory in schools.
Further, the East Kameng Gorkhas Welfare Society also organised a peace rally to support Gorkhaland on Saturday, and paid homage to the martyrs who had scarified their lives for the greater interest of the Gorkhas. The rally started from Seppa General Ground to Police Station and ended at the general ground.
Various protest rallies and solidarity marches are being taken all across the country and beyond in support of Gorkhaland. Several organisations in the North East and those demanding small states have also shown their support for the Gorkhaland movement. Mass rallies were taken out on June 22 last in various districts of Assam for the same while a Tripura tribal party organised rallies in 29 places across the state on Saturday to support the demand for a separate Gorkhaland state.
In the meantime, the indefinite shutdown in the Hills reached the 10th day on Saturday.
Himalayan black bear cub rescued
ITANAGAR, Jun 24: A Himalayan black bear cub was rescued in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh and handed over to forest authorities for rehabilitation.
Oset Tasing from Boleng in the district rescued the cub from his agriculture field on Thursday, forest officials said today.
Tasing brought the cub to her residence and after feeding it, she handed it over to the Range Forest Officer of Boleng, the sources said.

General Hospital Ziro dedicated to Gyati Takka
ZIRO, Jun 24: The nomenclature of General Hospital, Ziro was formally changed as Gyati Takka General Hospital in a function on Saturday.
"Gyati Takka was a legendary leader known for his truthfulness and simplicity during his long political career from 70s to late 1990s," said local MLA and Parliamentary (Food and Civil Supplies) Tage Taki, while unveiling his bust.
"It is a historic occasion for the people of the district to bestow such an honour to the departed leader," Taki said, and thanked the state government for recognizing the contribution of the great leader to the district during its formative stage.
Taking a brief tour of the hospital premises and later speaking at the Abotani Hall, the local MLA assured to look into various needs of the hospital.
Commissioner (GA and DA) Hage Kojeen informed the gathering about "Chief Minister's District Innovative and Challenge Fund" which was recently launched to meet the critical public infrastructure gaps, including health, education or other social sectors.
Informing that hospitals without adequate diagnostic equipment, machinery and proper buildings are eligible under this scheme, he advised the Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner and the DMO to prepare a scheme for the hospital for onward submission within the stipulated time.
District Medical Officer, Dr Tage Kanno highlighted the various problems of the hospital, such as shortage of power supply, need of an anaesthetist, radiologist etc.
Meanwhile, Gyati Kacho, son of Gyati Takka donated Rs 2 lakhs to the hospital for purchase of urgent medical equipment. (DIPRO)
Selection of Pasighat under Smart Cities Mission to usher improved standard of life: Governor
ITANAGAR, Jun 24: Arunachal Pradesh Governor, P B Acharya has expressed confidence that with selection of Pasighat, the district headquarters of East Siang district under Centre's Smart Cities Mission, a new benchmark for excellence will be laid in standard of life, health care and educational facilities and basic infrastructure.
Congratulating the denizens of Pasighat, Acharya said that Pasighat, the centennial town of the state and one of the foremost educational hubs of the erstwhile NEFA deserved to be included in the list.

Police warn public against mystery callers

PASIGHAT, Jun 24: The police of Pasighat Police Station warned the public not to divulge confidential information of their bank accounts, such as PIN, card numbers and OTP to any mystery callers.
Fraudsters introduce themselves as bank officer and ask the customers for PIN, card numbers, OTP in the pretext of verification in order to get access to one's bank account, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anggit Taying.
He said that the police have received numerous complaints of people being duped through fraudulent transactions in Pasighat.
"Banks never ask for confidential information, such as OTP, ATM and card numbers etc from customers; and such calls can only be made by fraudsters," he said.
Expressing concern over growing traffic congestion at Pasighat town, Taying appealed to all to obey traffic rules and also asked the traffic police to perform duties sincerely.
One found dead in city hotel

ITANAGAR, Jun 24: One Papung Nayu (29) reportedly plunged to his death from the third floor window of his room to the rooftop of the ground floor of Waii International Hotel at Itanagar on Saturday morning.
The police informed that Nayu, a resident of Polo Colony in Naharlagun, had checked into the hotel with three other friends for the past seven days.
The police also said that the body of Nayu was found by a hotel boy at around 7AM on Saturday while cleaning the roof top of the ground floor.
The police also said that the three other people have been interrogated, who claimed that they were drunk and went off to sleep. They also claimed that they found out about the incident only after the body was discovered in the morning.
On signs of any foul play, the police informed that the Nayu had received a head injury from the fall, but his body has been sent for post mortem, after which his cause of death will be ascertained.
A case of unnatural death under section 174 CrPC has been registered in the Itanagar Police Station in this regard which includes reasonable suspicion of some other person committing an offence.

Why are we so serious in life ? It seems that everyone is so busy with their lives that there is no time to laugh! In govt jobs or in MNCs/PSUs any one laughing is considered to be wasting time or displaying casual attitude. At work, one is supposed to keep working with a grim face. An effective boss is stiff collared, not supposed to smile and be stern always.
In many of our houses we rarely laugh or joke. When we meet in gatherings in villages or towns also we hardly joke or laugh. We are so serious that even husband and wife do not walk together. Husband walks ahead with the wife following behind by few paces! Similarly in offices also, we are too serious for any laughter or jokes. We are too serious in our towns, villages, families, offices, schools.
In our tribal society there are too many Kebangs/Kebaa/Mels going on in our villages and towns. Kebangs/Kebaa/Mels are conducted for resolving property disputes, land disputes, marital disputes, petty crimes, violence etc. Another new addition to this list of disputes is defamation cases. It is estimated that there are hundreds of Kebangs/ Kebaa/ Mels going on per day in our villages and towns! In many cases, even when the disputes are being tried in judicial courts, Kebangs/Kebaa/Mels are held for the same. Despite so many Kebangs/ Kebaa/ Mels the peace index in society seems to be going down!
The rare jokes are at the cost of another person, tribe or organization. We do not have the ability to laugh at ourselves (Remember Sardarji jokes). If anyone pulls a pun on us individually, our tribe or our political party or our organization, we take it too seriously and are ready for another Kebang/Kebaa/Mel! Reaction to many disputes are typically ‘Kaat Dunga’ or ‘Maar Dunga’ or ‘Dao Dekha Hai…?’
Due to our seriousness in life, stress levels are increasing, leading to lifestyle diseases like high Blood Pressure, Hypertension, Diabetes etc. Due to high stress levels, most of us are always short tempered, irritable and argumentative. We are always in a rush, always overspeeding and overtaking; we want to arrive last and jump the line. We are irritable, rude and start the day shouting at each other!

Rebia inspects dilapidated Doimukh PS
DOIMUKH, Jun 24: Urban Development, Land Management, Law and Justice Minister, Nabam Rebia inspected the dilapidated Doimukh Police Station on Saturday.
During inspection, Rebia observed that water logging poses a serious problem for the police station, and accordingly directed DC Tai Kaye to acquire the PWD building rented by the Postal Department.
Rebia also directed the UPO to speed up the drainage construction around the police station, and said that the Doimukh Police Station should be a model police station.
Deputy SP, Neelam Nega, UPO and the Doimukh Circle Officer also accompanied the Minister.

LBEF felicitates toppers of AISSE & AISSCE

PASIGHAT, Jun 24: The Legong Banggo Employees Forum (LBEF) conducted its second felicitation programme at Bilat Higher Secondary School on Saturday and awarded 27 meritorious students.
Among best performing higher secondary schools, GHSS Bilat was adjudged as the best school by the Forum for its pass percent average of 67.6 percent this year. Last year, the same school's principal was suspended for poor results.
The Forum also donated four white boards to the school.
DC East Kameng, Rajeev Takuk, who is also Chairman of LBEF spoke about the aims and objectives of the felicitation programme and categorically said that proper education facilities are necessary to bring improved changes in the region.
Parliamentary Secretary, Tatung Jamoh and Director Elementary Education, Tapi Gao also laid emphasis on promoting education to bring self reliance and progress in Legong Banggo areas.
The officials also appealed to the teaching community to comply with the government order of rationalizing of posting of teachers, citing that many schools in interior areas are suffering due to shortage of teachers.
MLA Jamoh and DEE Gao also inspected the school infrastructure of GHSS Bilat and found several classes under pitiable conditions.
RARI conducts medical camp
NAHARLAGUN, Jun 24: The Regional Ayurvedic Research Institute (RARI), Itanagar conducted a free health check and awareness camp at Government Secondary School, Pachin, Naharlagun on Saturday.
A team of ayurvedic doctors from RARI examined the patients and distributed medicines to needy patients for free.
They asked the school staff, students and general people to maintain good health and hygienic practices and keep their surrounding neat and clean.
In total, 159 patients have availed the benefit of the medical camp. Fifteen out of the total patients investigated were found anaemic (less than 9.0 gm%).
The camp was inaugurated by Papum Pare DMO Dr. Tasso Kampu.
The institute has also adopted 10 villages and colonies in Papum Pare district under Swasthya Rakshan Programme linked to Swachha Bharat Mission.
Since April this year, weekly OPDs are running in five villages, where free medical check up, haemoglobin and blood sugar tests, and consultation are being facilitated.

ZIRO, Jun 24: Awareness on topics like child labour, drug menace, Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012 and Child Welfare Committee and its functioning were created among students of Government Secondary School, Hapoli on Saturday as part of a daylong legal awareness campaign.
Organised by the District Legal Service Authority, the campaign was attended by advocates Tanyang Tado, Hibu Usha and Pura Dollo as resource persons.

ITANAGAR, Jun 24: The organizers of Mr Arunachal pageant contest, Aries Corps Event Management Group, informed that they would be holding the event for both boys and girls under the title 'Mr & Miss Arunachal' from this year onward.
